It feels like the summer holiday is just over and the Christmas decoration and Sinterklaas sweets are already in the shop. For the not dutchies Sinterklaas is a Dutch holiday somewhat like celebrating the birthday of Santa Clause. And for children, it’s an amazing day since he usually brings gifts as well! So right now it is time for small business owners or DIY lovers like me to start the Christmas preparations for this special month. What do you need to think of? Well, let’s check off our list.
Check out your stock
How much do you have left? In my case, do I still have enough leather…? (Stupid question… I have never enough leather hahaha) What about rivets, glue, thread? Check your lists, make them up to date and order/get extra if you need.
What about orders?
It might become quite buzzy, with orders. So you might need to think about your strategy. Do you want to keep personal orders coming in or are you preparing certain holiday-stock items and sell those? If you’ve got previous orders keep them up to date on the status of the product and, for example, close regular orders during the buzziest time.
Promotion or not
If you do choose for a special holiday stock item, you might want to think about your promotion. Do you often find your buyers on Instagram, Facebook, your website or from friends and family? Choose for the most fruitful promotion channel but don’t forget about the others. You could try something new every once in a while although. On the other side, you don’t want to have holiday-stock leftovers afterward either.
Since it’s the most wonderful time of the year, you might want to get some special packaging. Your gift must steal the show under the Christmas tree, doesn’t it? You could also offer this option for a little extra money. Don’t forget to think about how you want to do the rest of your branding as well, because the receiver might become a new customer. Think about these tips and tricks for example.
Price your products right
You might think about making small, cheap little gifts since it’s Christmas and you hope to sell many of them. On the contrary, you could make different products for different price ranges, since everyone’s budget will differ. One person might be looking for that amazingly cute little wallet while someone else wants to treat his or her significant other with padfolio, a toiletry bag or even a brand new work tote! Try to work out what people want. Produce some products in advance and give them the right price.
With more and more online stores the shipping time might be longer than you and your customer expect. Set a certain ‘just-in before Christmas’-date to make sure Santa Clause or Sinterklaas can deliver all the presents in time!
Take care of yourself
This item might sound out of place in this list. Though you should schedule some time for yourself after these probably stressful months! Hopefully, everything went well and you definitely deserved it.
