Big hardware and lot’s of chains, we have seen it on the catwalk, on the streets but what about your designs? You might remember these chains from the start of the travel bag I started on a few weeks ago. But how to choose the perfect chain…? And what is a golden colored chain? Let’s see…
Gold, gold or gold?
I’ve been shopping some chains, D-rings, and chain-ends but in every shop, I seemed to find another color of gold. Gold can apparently be a little brass colored, or almost silver, or even a little bit greenish… Since I bought my D-rings and chain-ends at the same shop I could find the same color but once I left them at home I did not know which color of a golden chain would match… So I bought them all. Projects in the future might need just a little greenish golden chain or maybe the next needs a little bit more silverish. You could never have too much golden chain ;).
Round, flat round or oval
The shape of the loops differs also strongly. They could be round, oval or almost square-ish. Besides the loops, the three chains I found were truly so different. The upper one, as you can see in the image below, was solid, the metal was round but the shape of the loop was oval. The middle one was also round but hollow, very light weighted, and the loop was the most round compared to the others. The last one is solid but the metal is flattened. You can see this very clear in the other images as well.
Choices to make
With all different colors, different shapes of the loop, you would think one of them should match. Well, lucky me, the last one did! So, I didn’t have much choice in this case, but the other ones will be used in other projects! Just if you wonder, the chain ends I chose, do I use in combination with rings or D-rings which you attach and de-attach whenever you like. You swap different straps easily or turn it into a hip-bag. I wanted to try these interchangeable straps after writing this post!
Soon I will post an update on what I do with these chains and a little update on the travel bag of course! But for now, back to work!
