First of all, although I am a little late, I wish you all a very merry Christmas! It’s boxing day to time to chill, relax and digest all those Christmas dinners and brunches. But most of all, yesterday you had to stay focused all evening for the other to unwrap their presents while you actually like to sneak away with yours… a new leather book, BAG DESIGN by Fashionary. Let’s check it out!
A good prospect for 2018…
Even though this isn’t time for new years resolutions, since the year isn’t over yet, this gift is certainly a great start already! I certainly with keep this book in mind while drafting my list for 2018. In the meantime, I still have some projects to finish so maybe whenever I am stuck in the process there might be a solution or two written in this book. But first a little overview of what this book is and what it describes!
A little overview
As the back cover describes, “The Fashionary bag design is a complete handbook focussing on the practical needs of bag designers”. Well, don’t we need that all? This isn’t a sponsored post or something but I am just very curious and excited about my new book haha. It contains a bag library with over 300 different styles of bags. My BIG BAG LIBRARY is nothing compared to this… (although still an awesome post of course). All different kind of bags are listed but also all the details like bottoms, handles, sides and pockets, etcetera. Next, it describes the anatomy of different bags, different aspects of the bag making process such as the tools and patterns.
“Common knowledge” collected
I started this blog to share my newly gained knowledge, at that time this book didn’t exist, nor could I find it all on the internet. I have started to collect some basics in my blog posts “Pure Leather” and many of those things are also collected in this book. It is just so handy to have a place to start and to review whenever you forgot “how and why”.
New knowledge
If I already knew everything, what I obviously don’t … I wouldn’t have asked Santa Claus for this gift. So what didn’t I know yet…? Well, there are a few parts I was particularly interested in. I love to learn how to properly make bag templates and this book has about 60 templates of the most common types of bag styles. Besides that, there is an interesting part of miscellaneous subjects! Something I always find difficult is where to place your logo and how big it should be. In this book, they show the different options and give you an idea how it will look in the end. Moreover, it has a useful list of books and blogs (WHY ISN’T MINE ON THE LIST?? ) and how to make a more professional design with a spec sheet and range plan!
Overall I think Bag Design is gonna be my newest favourite book!! Whenever I have used it over and over again I might do a new review 🙂 but I am especially curious about your reviews! Do you already have got a copy of this book and what do you think of it?
