Can you believe it… only 25 days until Christmas! Time to start shopping, prepping and decorating. Just like last year, I like to create something unexpected. The previous creation was a mini leather bag ornament for in the Christmas tree (check out this post for a little how-to here and the result here. Ps. sorry for the bad photography back then…) and this year I thought of a multi-purpose little gift; a leather laser engraved Christmas coaster!
Setting the table
Somehow I manage to ruin a Christmas tablecloth every year… I spill either the cranberry sauce, create almost a fire by knocking over a candle or staining the cloth with wine circles. Well, besides being more careful, a Christmas coaster might help the latter problem. You don’t want to ruin your pretty table with ordinary coasters but a pretty laser engraved leather Christmas coaster is even an addition to your table.
It’s dinner time
Ssssssh, don’t tell my boyfriend yet… but I’ve also made some personalised Christmas coasters to surprise him. But this is also the perfect little dinner name tag for your whole friend or family dinner guests. In fact, since not everyone might have a laser engraving machine at their disposal, I will just open a little pop-up Christmas facebook shop. So everyone can order their own personalised Christmas coasters as long as the leather stock lasts.
Gather around the Christmas tree for a little merry Christmas wish
Yeah, I said it was a multi-purpose little gift. Why? Well, because you can not only use it on your Christmas dinner table but you could also hang it in the Christmas tree or on the door in a little Christmas wreath. Last but not least, since some family members aren’t able to come to your dinner table to see your coasters, you could send them your merry Christmas wish to them as a very unique and original Christmas card!
How to make one?
Well, I hope to have given you enough inspiration to create your very own. But how to?
- All you need is a little bit of knowledge of Adobe Illustrator to create a vector file (or a very smart friend ;))
- A piece of leather to your preference but thick enough to laser
- A laser lab, often they charge you with the amount of time you use the laser and their help to get the settings right.
If this is a little bit too much for this years Christmas but you love the Christmas coasters as much as I do keep an eye on my facebook for a little pop-up Christmas Shop!
