Hooooo, it’s HALLOWEEN. No little leather ghosts today but tassels!! To be more precise a DIY KIT to make your own tassel. Did you forget to enter the competition??? Or did you miss the preview on my Instagram story? Well, don’t worry. You’ve still got some hours… but be quick, click here and enter the competition. All you need to do is answer the question…’what is your favourite type of post here on Florine Leather and Style?‘.
Just in case you don’t win the kit today I will share the DIY – how to! You will need to get your own supplies so what do you need? Or if you do win the kit, a little preview!!
What do you need:
- Piece of leather (10,5 x 12 cm)
- Metal tassel cap
- A strip of leather with your name!!
- Keyring
- (Stanley) leather knife
- Ruler
- Cutting board
- Leather glue
- Small (jewellery pliers)
Step 1: Cut it!
Cut out the stencil for the pattern of the leather key fob tassel of the DIY kit. Whenever you want to make this DIY more often you could copy the pattern over and over again or you could follow the pattern along these instructions. Mark a line of 1.5 cm from the top of the 12 cm and along the 10,5 cm side. This strip on the top should not be cut in. Cut along the ‘long side’ little strips till the marked 1.5 cm line with a width of about 5 mm.

Mark the 1.5 cm from the top…

Mark 0.5 cm for each fringe…

Use a ruler to cut the tassel…
Step 2: Glue, Glue and more Glue
Put some glue along the complete width of the 1.5 cm strip on the ‘wrong side’ of the leather. Whenever it’s dry, turn over the piece of leather and put also some glue on the ‘right side’ of the leather 1.5 cm.

Glue one side…

And also the other side…
Step 3: Keep’n rolling
Turn the piece of leather over one more time. The wrong side of the leather is facing upwards, right? Now roll the piece from one side of the leather over to the other side but as tight as you can. Eventually, it should fit in the Metal tassel cap!

Roll it as tightly as you can…
Step 4: Even more Glue
Since the whole top piece is covered in glue it should be sticky already but just to be sure, put even more glue on the top of the rolled tassel. Put it tightly in the metal cap and go on to the next step. But just before you do, let the tassel dry for a day.

Put it all tightly in the metal cap…
Step 5: Attach and enjoy your very own tassel!!
The last step is to attach the personalized piece of leather and metal cap on the keyring. You could cut a little triangle out of the personalised piece of leather to make it just a little bit fancier ;)!
The end! I hope you’ve enjoyed this DIY instruction, so enter the competition and win the complete DIY kit!!
