While being on holiday to Nerja I just couldn’t turn off my thoughts to leather. In this heat (read 35* C) you would think your brain should melt. When wandering on the beaches, I just want to write down my thoughts. When you say Spain you say TAPAS! If I could, I would like to eat tapas 365 days a year. From the patatas bravas to albondigas and the presentation oelala! Let’s talk about that. Often wooden plates are used or “terracotta” plates. All nice and pretty but I saw a great DIY… Let’s pimp those cutting boards and spice up that presentation at home!
What do you need:
- Cutting board (small like mine or big!)
- Leather (or ready-made
leather strips) - Strap cutter or sturdy hand, ruler and Stanley knife.
- Leather- or all-purpose glue
Step 1: Cutting leather straps
If you have already some pre-cut leather strips you can go on to the next step. If not, cut some thin strips of various sizes (0.5, 1, 2 cm thick). It is completely up to you how you will design your cutting boards but in my case, I have cut a 0,5 cm thick strap which was 20 cm long.
Step 2: Wrap around
Put some leather glue or all-purpose glue onto the tip of the strip and glue it onto the cutting board. Once it dried you can go on and wrap the strip tightly around the cutting board. Or make a variation of it with a little leather braid.
Step 3: TAPAS!!
It’s a simple DIY but a very good-looking one! The final step is to make some tapas, eat and enjoy the evening. In this case, it’s a two-person-tapas table haha. But wouldn’t it be a perfect amuse size for a Spanish themed party or just a little bite during some wine tasting with friends?!
I love the end result. A wooden plate is already a great way to present your food but the touch of leather is just the icing on the cake. Don’t you think? Good luck with this DIY and let me know if you have spiced it up! For more DIY’s check this page out!
