When approaching the end of the college year, those exams creep up to me every time… It feels like mountains will have to be moved before the summer holiday can start. Although something I have learned over the years of college is that every once in a while a human needs its relaxation time before its brain can absorb more and more knowledge. For me relax time is leather craft. The concrete diamond paperweight was completely dry, click here for PART I, so it was time to finish it in between learning for my exams.
Imagination VS Reality
You might have seen some updates on my Instagram story and with every piece I attached, I loved it more and more! It’s always a surprise if something you have imagined in your head will actually turn out the same way. This time it did, maybe even exceeded my expectations.
Some tricky parts of this diamond shaped paperweight…
The tricky part of this project was to do the perfect skiving of the edges so they would perfectly be joined on the diamond corners. Although after some endless skiving, with my newest Japanese skiving knife (more on this tool over here!!) I managed to get it right.
Final finishing touch
To finish it off and make it a unique Florine Leather & Style piece I just had to put my logo on it. Not the rubber stamps I recently made but with my Kingsley Hot Stamping Machine (one of my amazing finds this year!). Once I sewed the final piece to the paperweight it really came together. Sorry for all my bragging haha!
What do you think of it? I am in love with it. All it needs is the perfect place on my desk. This way I keep all my loose notes and paper organised with this unique leather covered concrete diamond shaped paperweight. Stay tuned for a new IKEA HACK DIY (oh yeah!) for all of you who needs some relax time just like me between the job, college and exams or for everyone who is already in the holiday mood!
