Imagine, only a few days left before valentine, and you have no clue what to get (or make) your Valentine. Don’t worry any longer, with this simple and good looking DIY I just have saved your day ;). The greatest thing of all it is completely adjustable to your loves’ wishes. Since I wanted to practise with quilting I used a lovely red suede and soft pink leather to see the effect of it.
What do you need:
- a piece of leather big enough for two hearts (also possible out of scraps)
- filling
- matching or contrasting waxed thread
- two leather needles
- triangular ruler or a straight ruler and a cutting mat with 45 degrees lines
- pricking irons
- mallet
- leather glue
- (Stanley) knife
- mall
Step one: To gain your Valentines heart
Trace the mall on the leather. In this case, I used pen because I couldn’t see my scratching lines, though in other cases don’t use a pen but a silver pen or just scratching pen/awl. When you are confident about your heart, it is time to cut it.
Since you won’t see the inside of the heart, you can mark the 45 degrees lines inside or use my mall to mark the lines. Place the two outsides against each other and punch the stitching holes over the 45 degrees lines.
Step two: Time to put some love in it
Depending on your stuffing, either glue the edges together, leave a hole and stuff your heart. Or cut the stuffing fabric into shape and glue the edges with the stuffing inside together. DON’T forget to put the little strip inside for the keyring!!! Because if your glue is as good as mine… it is a little horror to put it in after glueing everything.
Mark the stitching lines along the edge and punch the stitching holes.
Step three: Don’t be afraid to show your heart(keyfob)
Now it is time to stitch everything together and put the keyring inside the hoop. The only thing left is a nice wrapper and a BIG kiss.
One easy and lovely Valentine gift! I will wish you all a very happy valentines day the 14th with of course a new post. And don’t forget to check out my other DIY’s if you can’t get enough. Love to hear about your results and comments!
Lovely, I hope your Valentine will enjoy it as much as you do!
Thank you so much! I hope he will.
