Once you get an idea in your head, it might fly away or it might stick for a while. Since my new year’s resolutions and pinning a lot of leather interior pieces some ideas flew in. A leather desk pad just had to be made. If you are very curious I can turn this into a DIY but for now, I have just some photos of after I put it together since you probably are still a lot of dustbags for all of your bags of last Tuesday. You can find the DIY here.
Coffee and a Desk pad…. not a great combination
Since I know myself I had to find a way to protect the most vulnerable part of the leather (the back) before I threw all my cups of coffee, some inspirational snacks hi hi, or just dirt from living behind it. Therefor I have bought some transparent flexible plastic to add to the back of the desk pad. Besides protecting it from coffee or other liquids it also prevents it from moving around. Two problems solved for the price of one piece of plastic! To cover the edges and lock the piece of plastic, I have sewed all edges fold over with the plastic in between.
Don’t forget the top of the desk pad
Since you also want to protect the top of the desk pad, I have brought some amazing smelling leather cream with me from Greece. Because it smells like ‘bitterkoekjes’ in Dutch or in English like the amaretti biscuits from Italy.
Some more details and the final desk pad in use
I have made a lot of detail picture because I couldn’t get enough of it! During exam weeks it would almost be impossible not to crawl behind your desk and just study for hours…
What do you think of the final product? Doesn’t it look great? What should I tackle next in my home? Do you have any ideas or have projects in and around your house? I look forward to all your comments and don’t forget to check out my Pinterest page where a new board has been formed “leather – interior”.
