Yes ladies, a very easy no-sew leather DIY. I said I wouldn’t give you an easy DIY’s though this one is just so fabulous I had to share it with you. A bag is on the make (more details later) and to give it just that little bit more charm I have made a leather fringe charm. Because I couldn’t choose between the two designs I have made them both and now I can also keep one for myself, win win I would say.
What do you need: a piece of leather
– a piece of leather
– a Stanley knife or leather knife
– a metal ruler
– leather glue
– scratching awl
Charm number I
Step 1: Measure and Cut
Cut a piece of leather (height 10cm x width9cm) and mark 1cm on the width side on the top and on the bottom. Mark each 0,5 cm in the height direction. Cut each strip between the two 1cm strip and make sure you don’t cut through the 1cm border. Cut the last strip all the way through as attachment to the ring.
Step 2: Glue, Glue, Glue
Put some glue on both 1cm borders (on the wrong side), wait until the glue is dry, depending on the type of glue and/or stick it together. Put also some glue on the wrong side of the attachment strip and leave 1cm in the middle free of glue. Once the glue is dry also stick the pieces together. Put some glue one side of the right side and 1cm on both sides of the bottom of the attachment piece and wait for it to be dry.
Step 3: Let’s roll
Place the attachment piece on one end of the strip and roll the strip tightly till you reach the end. If you use the leather glue you will also need to put some glue on the outside – side of the roll but try first until where you will need to glue it, otherwise you will be left with an all-over-glued leather fringe charm.
Charm number II
Step 1: Measure and Cut
Repeat step 1 from fringe charm type I, though you will need only one 1 cm border. Cut on the 0.5 cm marks until you have 20 strips (20 x 0.5 = 10cm PERFECT!) though cut also on this piece the last strip all the way through as attachment piece.
Step 2: Glue, Glue, Glue
Glue the attachment piece as described above, and glue the 1cm border on the wrong side (and a small strip on the right side if you use the leather glue).
Step 3: Let’s roll
Repeat step 3 completely and you will have 2 perfect little leather fringe charms! Give one to your best friend, your mother, your neighbour etc. Everyone will love it. But keep the one you like the best for yourself.
I hope you will forgive me for the easy DIY but let’s face the truth…the are lovely and stylish. Let me know if you would love more easy DIY or is it time to take it to the next level?
